Please welcome Professor Justin Nystrom, a James Beard nominee and professor of history at Loyola, for a discussion of his recent book, Creole Italian: Sicilian Immigrants and the Shaping of New Orleans Food Culture. The book has been nominated for this year’s James Beard award for culinary literature. Justin will be discussing the effect of the Sicilian immigrants on the New Orleans dining scene. It is hard to imagine our city without a Mandina’s, Central Grocery, Terranova’s, or any of the other neighborhood restaurants started by Sicilian immigrants to our city. Sadly, lunch will be our standard, and not muffulettas from Central, but I hope you can join me to hear Justin discuss a fascinating aspect of our beloved home, New Orleans.
